"Thanks again for dinner," Enzo says as he gives each of his family a bear hug in turn. "It's always great to come home, we gotta do this more often."

"Yes, thank you so much." Dani follows up with hugs of her own.

Everyone wishes Dani one final happy birthday, and Matrix produces a tear for Bob to stabilize.

Together, Enzo and Dani step through the portal and back to their apartment...

...where Enzo's fellow Guardians are variously sprawled on the futon and Bézier-bag chairs.

"Hey, there you are!" says Balun with a lazy wave. "You want some, or are you too full?" He gestures toward a few remaining slices of piezoelectric pizza.

Minus chimes excitedly and darts to catch another piece of topping Value has just thrown.

Dani looks at Balun, Value and the others, over at Enzo, and then back to his fellow Guardians.

"...funny, I don't recall giving any of these guys a key. Do you, Enzo?" she asks, smirking.

"No," Enzo says slowly, "I really don't. I guess we should be grateful they haven't done this before."

"Only for special occasions," Hugh assures them.

"Happy birthday, Dani," adds Ina Jo, who seems to be locked in a permanent state of eye-roll.

"Thanks, Ina Jo," Dani replies, very pointedly ignoring Hugh (for the moment).

This is everyone else's cue to offer birthday greetings as well.

"It's just the five of you, right?" Enzo demands. "No hidden file commands? No one lurking in the closet?"

"Just us," Val agrees, "but Caret and Alvey said they'd drop by later."

"Something about 'boundaries' and 'respecting property'," Tone adds.

The others are thanked for their birthday greetings.

"Next question, you don't have anything planned, do you?" she asks warily.

"Nothing definite," shrugs Balun. "Ina Jo keeps shooting down the best ideas."

"You're welcome," says the voice of sanity drily.

"Oh, but we had some super mature ideas for your gold release!" declares Val.

"Where do you even get enough ball-pit balls to fill an apartment?"

"I know a sprite who knows a sprite."

Dani opens her mouth...then closes it, deciding that she really doesn't want to know.

"We could take you to a bar, I guess," Tone says half-heartedly, scratching the back of her head. "It's a little obvious, though."

"The Foo Bar can be fun," Val suggests.

"Yeah, or, Balun, what's the one your mom likes, where all the search engines hang out?"

"The Address Bar."

Dani looks a bit uncertain as well. "I'm...not really into going to a bar anyway. I know I'll be digitized, but I'm not too eager to find out what affect alcohol might have on me."

"You sure? We'll watch out for you."

"She means 'cause of her ghost code," Enzo explains. "We should really get your folks to run some tests on that."

Whether she actually wants to imbibe or not, it'd still be good to know.

Dani nods in agreement. She also says nothing about her own theory that Danny may or may not have already performed his own "tests".

"What Enzo said. I mean, for all I know the worst that would happen is that I'd end up flying around the ceiling and colliding with the wall. But I'd rather not chance it."

"Fair enough. But when you do have your first drink, we want to be there."

"Filming it."

"We could go to a show," Val suggests. "I heard there's a new play on not too far from here, written entirely in INTERCAL. Should be a hoot."

Grimacing, Dani barely resists the urge to facepalm. And resolves to either a) never drink or b) make sure that Enzo's friends aren't anywhere near the vicinity.

"A play sounds like fun," she agrees.

"Yeah, I'd be up for that," Enzo concurs.

Ina Jo nods her surprised approval at the idea. "That's actually a rational activity."

"You did hear the part where it's in INTERCAL, right?"

"Comparatively rational. Well, if that's what we're doing, we'd better get going soon. Last call for pizza, leftovers in the fridge, and for Ada's sake clean up after yourselves." She claps her hands sharply, like a teacher trying to wrangle small children, which isn't too far off the mark. Enzo shoots Dani a stifled grin as the others fall more or less into line.

Dani looks over at Enzo, biting her lip to hide her own grin.

Hugh gathers up the plates and sticks them in the sink while Tone attempts to stuff an entire slice of piezoelectric pizza into her mouth at once. Balun puts what little pizza remains into the fridge. Value peels cheese off of Minus' shell and drops it into his food bowl.

When the place is more or less liveable again, Ina Jo raises a hand. "Before we go..." She presents Dani, with great ceremony, with an amusing hat with "100" in great big shiny numerals on top.
